Snow, cold, fish fry and pinewood derby

we have had an interesting week, the boys have been off all week due to public holiday (Monday), snow (Tuesday and Wednesday), and record low temperatures (Thursday and Friday).  They need to go back to school on Monday for my sanity and their sanity.   Today we had low temperatures the broke a 130 year old record, it was -12 F this morning.  Cold!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday day, to give the boys a break and let them burn off some energy, I took 4 hours of vacation time and took them to the Y for swimming and a work out.  They were happy to get out of the house and swim.  Wednesday after work, I took the to the sledding hill and let them play in the snow for 45 minutes.  I got too cold after that for us to stay longer.  We might get out on Sunday for some more sledding.  We are expecting 4-6 inches of snow tonight/tomorrow.  I am so ready for Spring.

Tonight, due to the snow coming tomorrow, bug's Cub Scout pack held the pinewood derby.  Bug did most of the work on his car, he painted, he sanded, he drilled holes for weights and he put the wheels in.  His car placed 3rd in the 4 races he was in, but did not place overall.  He was disappointment, but he did a great job.  I think next year he will do fine in his last race as a Cub Scout.  You can tell his is a car made by a 9 year old, versus some of the cars he competed against where you can tell the dad or a parent did most of the work.  I am proud that he wants to do the work and does the best he can.  Unfortunately, one of the wheels broke off after the race.  Bug was pretty upset about that.

We are having BB's family party on Sunday.  It will be the party with Jas, uncle Darrell, Auntie LuLu and mam.  Uncle Dave usually has to work all weekend and Pap is still not talking to me or Bug.  Over a year now that he as not talked to us.  His lost.  Bug misses him as do I.  Perhaps one day he will talk to us again.

Pictures coming in the morning as it is taking forever for the photos to post to the area where I can pull them into the blog.

Love and hugs,
Deb

3rd day off school

The boys have been off school all week, BB has actually been off since last Thursday.  I am done with winter.  Today we woke up to 4 inches of snow when the forecastors said we would get 1 inch of snow or less.  Since the snow started at 4 am and did not end until 10 am, starting school would not work.
The boys are off tomorrow due to cold, we are expecting temperatures of -5 F with wind chills as cold as -25 F.  Friday is supposed to be colder.  I doubt the boys will be going to school on Friday.  So a week off school and I am working the whole time, not a good combination.  I talked to my boss this evening about taking some time off tomorrow to take the boys to the Y for running and swimming.  She said yes, so we will be taking time out of our day tomorrow to burn off energy.  If the boys are home on Friday, I will probably do the same thing alas I usually am off on Friday afternoons.

Today, after work, I took the boys to the sledding hill for some fun.  It was cold, but the boys had fun.  They shared a sled because I forgot we had 2 extra sleds downstairs.  It was all good.

Spring starts in 30 days.  I need warm weather.  I need a vacation from winter.

And I figure out how to post pictures.  These are from Valentines Day.  More pictures coming this weekend to catch up with the boys.

birthday celebration-immediate family

blogger is still not letting me post pictures.  So words will have to do.

Yesterday was BB's 17th birthday, but we had a winter storm 2-12 inches of snow due to fall all day.  The boys were off school due to the US holiday of Presidents' Day.  Snow fell all day long.  Our street did not see a snow plow until after we went to bed, so no trip out for dinner.  BB choose Mexican for dinner, but the roads were a disaster, so we stayed home and had home cooked burritos.

Today, the street was plowed and by the time I finished up work, the boys were ready to leave house.  They had a snow day (school cancelled) today.  I must say, it is not pleasant to work while the boys are home.  I love them dearly, but working in the living room means I feel like they are watching me all the time and they feel like they have to be quiet or that they can not watch TV/Movies. Though today, they watch "Annie" (the 1980s version) and I sang along with the movie.

So we headed out this evening to enjoy a dinner out.  I took the boys to "La Piñata", it is one of our favorite Mexican restaurants.  BB and I had fajitas with shrimp, chicken, and steak.  Bug had chicken nuggets and rice.  Bug kills me with eating American food at ethnic food restaurants.  BB really enjoyed the food and the décor in the restaurant.

He also enjoyed the staff singing Feliz Cumpleano (Happy Birthday) to him while he wore a big sombrero.  BB had fried ice cream for dessert.  it was good to be out with the boys.

we did go out earlier in the day as the car needed to be serviced.  We have a loaner car and I am hoping our car does not have anything serious wrong with it and we get it back soon. But I am afraid the car is on its last gasp and I will be replacing the car soon.  If we have to replace the car, I would like a van, but I am not sure the budget is going to like a new car.

That's it for tonight.  Have a great day,
Deb

Valentines Party and last basketball game

So frustrated with my computers.  My computer needs to be taken in for servicing, the backlight for the monitor is not working and it hurts to try to look at the screen.  Bug's computer is refusing to post pictures to the blog and the IPADs in the house never post my blog posts.  the woes of technology.

Bug had his last basketball game for the season today.  Another loss- they lost every game and never were close at the end of the games.  They stayed close until the last quarter in many games, but it all feel apart in the 4th quarter each game.

The team was put into the "losers" tournament but we will forfeit because 4 of the 8 boys are in scouts and they have pinewood derby for scouts next weekend right when the tournament is.  I have been telling the coaches since the basketball schedule came out that there was a major conflict and they needed let the league know that our team might not be able to compete.  Apparently the league needs to know this before the schedule even comes out (????????).  Whatever.  Personally, I don't think there should be a losers tournament- there is no such thing in high school sports, college sports or professional sports, or even in club sports.  You either win your league or you are done after the last regular season game.  The basketball coordinator did not agree with me, "all the kids need to be in tournaments".

Bug had his school party for Valentine's Day yesterday, some cards, candy, and a movie.  Lots of fun.

Perhaps pictures tomorrow.
