Friday night, we attended the school talent show. Rocket was not in the talent show- he does not like people looking at him. We got to see he last magic show from one of the 8th graders (older brother to one of Rocket's friends).
The teachers did a parody of the song "Shut up and Dance with me" called "come on and read with me". It was AWESOME!
Saturday, I took Rocket and 2 of his friends to the Pops concert. Before he concert, the kids are allowed to try different instruments. L wanted to try everything. Rocket was willing to try things, E was not too keen on trying anything except the drums. This is L trying the clarinet.
It took L a bunch of tries to get a sound out of the clarinet.
Rocket tried it and made music on the first try
Next, they tried the trumpet. L plays trumpet in the school band, so this was easy for him. When Rocket tried, L was telling him what to do. The University Music student showing the instrument was impressed with both boys.
Making music.
Next the trombone. Rocket did not try this. E plays this in the school band.
The boys got in the long line for the drums and I decided I wanted to try the French horn. L agreed to come with me and take pictures of me.
I did make some music. It was fun.
Drummer boy
bongo boy
percussion trio.
As we were leaving to go down to our seats, we found the guitars. L and Rocket wanted to try.
Again, Rocket made music. I am thinking that Rocket is one of those blessed people who can pick up any instrument and make music almost immediately. What great gift to have.
Happy boys in our seats. The concert was wonderful. Lots of different dance music through the centuries. It started with a Slavic dance tune and ended with the song "Shut up and dance with me". The band who recorded the last song is from our city, the song gets played on the radio quite a lot.
Love and hugs,
Deb
