fun at the Aquarium, Monday 15Aug2016 (Happy birthday to Rocket)

Monday, Dancer arrived at 12 noon right as I finished up work.  We headed out to the Aquarium soon after to enjoy the afternoon.
The kiddos on the  levee.

Snake necked turtle.  I think if I ever came across one of these in the wild, I would be screaming.

Both Dancer and Falco were game to touch the wildlife.  As usually, Rocket wanted nothing to do with touching the wildlife.

The newest exhibit- SEAHORSES!!

this is a dragon seahorse.  I could not use flash photography in this area- but it really looks like a miniature dragon or a baby loch ness monster.

sea horse- I am happy.  they are soooooooo cute

a new octopus.  the one that here last year must have died (it was old last year when we came to visit). this one is much more active.

stingrays- also my favorite

none of the kiddos are taller than the alligator's tale.  It is interesting that this chart shows Rocket at 5 feet, but another chart later in the aquarium shows him under 5 feet.

in the jaws of the alligator.

the otters were out today- they bring them out one at a time as they are introducing the otters to each other.  both are new to the aquarium and there might be otter babies in the future

Tortuga!!

See, Rocket is significantly shorter than 5 feet on this chart.

Dancer touching the sharks.  I like Dancer, I think she will be OK while she is with us.

OK- that's about it for today.  I might have to see what photos Falco has to see if he has some good ones of our adventures this week.

catching up on a busy weekend- school starts tomorrow

lets got through the birthday/back to school mini vacation in reverse order.
Monday, 18Aug2014: the Aquarium.  We headed out with BB and picked up Mariposa, the exchange student from 5 years ago.  It was nice to see her and put to rest the demons from the past.
We headed down to see the aquarium and have a great time.

The aquarium has made quite a few changes since we were there.  lots more sharks, like these cuties.

some turtles (tortugas) for my boy to play one and have everyone pose on.

Mariposa and Bug

Bug and BB

the boys have a great time together, I think this is going to be a fun year.

Measuring up to Mighty Mike- about 4.5 feet

BB is just over 5 feet.  Could Bug end up being taller than BB?  Only time will tell.

Oh no, there is an alligator skeleton on my head!

Bug might even end up being taller than Mariposa.

the frog princes.  One is very tired.

touching tortoises (turtles that only live on dry land)
.

Jellies!!!!

Denver, the turtle.  My favorite part of the Aquarium

sill boys

my little flock.
We had lunch at Dewey's pizza (a tradition) and then took Mariposa home.  The boys started working on a puzzle.

Saturday, we had Bug's kid party.  We went Glow-blowing. Unfortunately, BB could not join us as he had orientation for the hosting group he is here with for the year.  But that did not dampen the party once we got started.

The gang, N, Hermano, A, C (partially hidden), P, L and Bug.

Sunday, we had "meet the teacher" at school and afterwards, I took the boys swimming.

School starts tomorrow, 19Aug2014 for Bug.  BB starts next week.  It is going to be an adventure this year.

The Aquarium- 2013

Friday, after a week of talking to Bug and his therapist, I took the afternoon off.  bug needed some momma time.  He was
feeling stressed after so many weeks in camp, my work schedule and some issues at summer camp.  He needed a break.  So we planned for me to work a half day, bug would sleep in (but he did not), and then after lunch, we would go out to the museum center.  Friday morning bug decided he wanted to go to the aquarium and he wanted a friend to go too.  So a quick call to his friend's mom to see if P could go with us, a call to mam to tell her the change and a busy morning for me getting all my work done and we were off.

We had, at one time, talked about going to the zoo.  But we are in heat wave.  The temperatures are close to 100 degrees F (about 40 degrees C) and due to the humidity, it feels like temperatures above 100 degrees.  It is awful outside.   We definitely needed an inside event.  Apparently, half the city thought the same thing, as the aquarium was packed!
Bug decided today was definitely "don't smile for any picture" day.  He had to make silly faces all day long. P, on the other hand, smiled for every picture.  P wanted to see the dive show and touch the sharks.  Bug enjoyed the dive show with P but had no desire to touch sharks.

the both enjoyed sending all my change down the drain at one time.

The frog princes

Finally, a great smile from my boy.

at the dive show, the sea turtle, Denver, kept swimming thru the bubbles.  I liked the effect.

The boys, totally engrossed

Happy boys, good friends

goofing around with the shark

one worn out little man.  Yes, he never goes to sleep in his bed, it is always on the couch near me.
