This is a picture of Hijo sleeping on the couch last night- 3 hours of swimming wore him out completely.
Today was a busy, eventful day. first it is hijo's birthday. I am now the momma of a 5 year old, who is soon going to kindergarten. WOW- time flies. 3 years ago, I thought this day was so far away and now it is here.
Second, we had the welcome picnic/ice cream social for the kindergartners. Of course, the fact that it was over 100 degrees with the heat and humidity and the new playground/park next to the school has no shade and that the picnic was at 1 pm meant it was exhausting and draining.
Third, we went out to celebrate hijo's birthday- at Chuck E Cheese- due to the weather, it was overrun with wild kids and man I was glad to leave there after an hour.
Then we had dinner with mam and pap and finally we Skyped with Popi, Momi Mireya and Susy. That was the icing on the cake as Hermano stopped by unexpectedly and the 2 boys got to talk to their foster family in Guatemala together.
so on to the pictures.
This picnic was the first time the playground/park has been used. It is a township park but is right next to the school hijo will attend, so he will have recess out here. What is not good is that the park has zero shade- the township leveled all the trees to build the park and the slides are facing the afternoon sun, so they are hot, hot, hot. I think a little better planning could have occurred. This is definitely not a park that will be on our list for after school or weekends due to the lack of shade.
As you can see, hijo was definitely suffering in the heat and humidity. It was over 100 by this time (heat index)- my car thermometer read 95 as we drove on the park lot. After an hour outside, we all went inside to have ice cream- hijo ate 2 bites and was done. Thank goodness I had packed ice water for us, we were both drinking as much as we could. This heat is awful.
After the ice cream, we got to go to the classrooms and see everything set up. Unfortunately, Hijo's teacher was unable to make the picnic as she had a family emergency. but her room was set up and ready to go. I can not show much from school because the kids names are on everything and everyone was wearing name tags. Hijo is one of 18 kids in his classroom. There are 3 kindergarten classes and all 3 classes have window air conditioners- so their rooms were nice and cool.
After we left the school, we headed over to Mam and Pap's to rest in the air conditioning (my car has no air conditioning right now). After resting, Hijo wanted to go to Chuck E Cheese (pizza and games). I told hijo we could play games, but we would go to a different place for dinner. Hijo had a great time playing the games. The place was packed (due to the heat and it being Sunday). While we were there, the skies opened and the rains came down. Poured down actually. We definitely needed it.
We came home and got ready to talk with Guatemala via Skype when we got a call from Hermano indicating that he and his parents were near by and could they stop over. No problem with us having them over- a pleasant surprise for the boys foster family in Guatemala. Hijo was not prepared to share the time with Hermano, so things got a little chaotic at times, but it was a great call filled with lots of love and excitement.
so that was our day. Busy, Busy, Busy. Tomorrow hijo has his last shot (vaccination) for school. And we begin the count down to school starting. Hijo starts school on 25Aug2010. I am so excited for hijo to start school. I loved school, I still love learning. I hope he loves school as much as I did/do.
Love and hugs,
Momma
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Sounds like you had a fun filled day.
