Little Man was pretty tired today. I think the drama of the last few days and possibly the last few weeks has caught up with Bug. I think emotionally he hit his limit today- one of the stressers for both of us was his doctor's visit this morning. He had to see the audiologist because he purposely failed his pre- school hearing test in August. To his defense, getting a shot on the same doctor visit that they expect you to do a hearing test is a bit much for a little boy. But because he choose not to respond to the hearing test then, we had to go see the audiologist at Children's hospital today. Bug as been quite worried that he was going to get a shot again today, even though I told him he was not getting a shot. He just could not accept my reassurances.
So this morning was pretty dramatic around here. The visit to the audiologist was interesting. The testing was beyond cool- they had this machine that using sound waves mapped Bug's ear canal. Then they played some games while Bug listened for sounds- he got to shoot baskets. The final outcome, no issues what so ever. I knew this intellectually, but emotionally I have been scared that perhaps Bug had no hearing in one ear, or diminished hearing in one ear. But they audiologist said everything was fine, all within normal parameters. What a relief.
Bug thought since he had the audiologist appointment, he did not have to go to school. Apparently the fact that I made him get dressed in his school uniform and packed his lunch and brought his backpack did not clue him into the fact that he was going to school. he was quite subdued on the what into school and it continued when he got home.
After school and work, we headed to the park. Bug just wanted to swing and then sit on my lap. Definitely he was feeling the emotionally toll of the last day least.
Yesterday, he spent some time outside after school and work with one of the neighbor girls. She wanted him to play at her house- inside in the basement. Bug was having none of that and wanted her to play in the backyard, but since she was in a neck brace earlier this week, her mom preferred no backyard playing. So I offered them a compromise of playing with chalk on the driveway. Bug liked it the entire time, E2 wanted to go play in the basement after about 10 minutes. We ended up with 30 minutes of play time.
Bug had chalk everywhere- on his ears, hands, pants. Anywhere he could touch chalk, he did.
well the drama seems to have subsided for today and Bug and I are exhausted, so I am heading off to bed.
Love and hugs,
Deb
