Piano, Scouts and Soccer

Rocket had his last piano recital last weekend, expect that he did not actually play at the recital.  He lost his music, but we went to support his teacher and the other students.  I was hoping that he would be able to play a different song- like Start Wars from memory, but I think he was too overwhelmed by loosing his music.  He made the decision to stop lessons after this month, and in May he will start percussion lessons.  He wants to be in band during High School. For a short time, I was considering allowing him to march with the high school band as an 8th grader, but friends talked me down from that. Better to encourage him to learn good study skills in 8th grade so he is ready for 3 days of and practice, Friday night football games and then Saturday band competitions in 9th grade.  He still needs to work on keeping his grades high enough to march.

My scout.  He was elected assistant patrol leader for his patrol   he will serve for 6 months and then rotate to a new position if he wants/is elected.  This night was a "bridging".  I can not believe he has been a boy scout for 2 years now

Having a good time with one of his best friends.

Just talking together- it is all good mom. I love the friends he has made in scouts.

The boy scout oath

after the cubs scout who were moving up, climbed across the bridge, the boys headed out to camp for the weekend.

Today was soccer game.  this is the 4th of the year and the first one with great weather.  Rocket is number 15 this year.

In the thick of things.

Yes, the other team was made up of boys and girls.  these 2 tangled a number of times and our player almost got a red card!!!!

This is one Rocket's friends from scouts.

Rocket's team won 6 to 0 for this game.  For the season, they are 1-3 (1 loss, 3 wins).

It is going to be a busy week for Rocket.  He is on the stage crew for the school musical and this is the last week of rehearsals before the performances this coming weekend.  He also has 2 soccer games this week, one on Wednesday and one on Saturday morning.  I expect a very tired boy.

In happy news, we are 1 month from vacation.  WOHOOOOO!!

April showers- rain and snow

April has started with a Bang.  Snow on Easter night, then thunderstorms on Tuesday and snow again today.  I am so done with winter.  I am ready for some warmer weather, opening the windows and breathing fresh air.
Moe pictures today from the new camera.

Spring flowers in the front garden.  These guys can take some snow and cold.

The bird feeders in the back yard.  There is a woodpecker on the front (square) feeder.  This picture decided for me that I definitely need the other lens before we go to Guatemala.  I should be able to pick it up next month.

The backyard on Monday morning after the snow on Easter night.  We filled the bird feeders Sunday evening and this is how empty they are in the morning.  We have some very greed guts birds.

Tuesday was rain! we went from temperatures below freezing on Monday to 70 F on Tuesday.  We had thunderstorms and there were tornadoes abut 50 miles (1 hour) north of us.

The lake forming at the drainage intake in our neighbors yard- 2 doors down from us.

The yearly pond under the trampoline.

Yesterday, Friday, I took Pablo out to the park for a walk.  Another excuse to use the camera

daffodils at the park

Curvy tree branch

I was surprised to see the turtles out sunning themselves.

a cathedral of trees.

The prairie field that was burned last year.  You would never know it had been burned.

The roots of a fallen tree.

squirrel in the woods.  Another confirmation that I need to get the lens with the better zoom.

Mushrooms growing on a fallen tree.

We are finishing up Rocket's Spring break.  He had some fun with friends on Thursday and Friday.  I was busy working.  Perhaps I need to reconsider working on his off days- there are not many days left with him (ok, it is years, but I see the end coming as he gets older).  So the plan for next year is to spend the time with him.  The hell with work deliverables, they will be there when I get back.

Rocket is off to a friend's party tonight.  The parents are there to keep an eye on things.

Love and hugs,
Deb
