first day of school- 5th grade

Well Rocket Man is starting a new school year today.  He is in 5th grade now, starting his 6th year at school, with 3 more years to go here- over half way through his school.  He still has 4 years of high school to complete after he finishes at this school, so we are not quite half way through his schooling, K-12th grade.
this is the last day of school in 5th grade

Here is the picture from this morning.  He looks happy, but he really did not want to go back to school.  I was ready for him to go back last week, then over the weekend I decided I was not ready for him to go back to school.

The "excitement" of the day so far was the bus not coming to pick him up until after school started.  Memories of his 3rd grade year are going through my head even now.  Back then, his bus was late almost every week and he had 3 bus drivers for the year- including the one who did not even last a day due to being in an accident on the first day.

I have already called the transportation office to discuss this issue so it can be nipped in the bud.  It is not fair to the kids or teachers to have a bus load of students arriving late all the time, not to mention how it impacts my work scheduled since I am supposed to start work at 8 am (same time school starts).  Not sure how accommodating my manager will be if I am standing at the bus stop with Rocket Man when I am supposed to be in meetings.

I'll post an update this evening on how Rocket Man's day went.

Love and hugs,
Deb

annual zoo trip- day before school starts

We headed out to the zoo today, for our annual back to school visit.  Rocket is getting so big, he pretty much swung his leg up and over the baby Rhino statue.

and he is as long as the statue.  Scary how tall Rocket is getting.

we went to see the giraffes, they are so cute!

then off to the lions.  We were hoping to see the lion cubs, but they were not around.  Maybe next time

Mam and giraffes.  I am not sure what she is saying to me, I thought she was smiling.

Mr. Grumpy face at the cheetah run show.  He was not happy with me at this point- the mood swings are so incredibly fast anymore.

Sir Francis Bacon- the warthog.  He is funny during the show

The Serval with the trainer.  I want one of these!

The Serval jumping- this is about 6 feet

this is 10 feet!  Yep, I want one of these.

One of the Ibex on the African grassland area.

and the turkey vulture

the ostriches, ibex and other animals on the grassland area.

I think this is the painted dog enclosure.  It could be an ostrich

the Meerkats!  Rocket really wanted to see these guys.

So cute too

Rocket and the statue of the Meerkats.

this is the painted dog area.  there were 12 of them out today.

Rocket with painted dog ears or as I like to say....

Rocket with his listen ears on.  I need to send this one to his teachers to show that he can listen.

the signs for the hippo area that will be opening next year.  After seeing the hippo in Guatemala, I am excited that we will have one here in Cincy.

We went to see some animals we usually don't visit- so a stop at the Gibbon island.  these guys sound like howler monkeys/

these guys kept yelling at the gibbons.  I think they were yelling at them to shut up.

the peacock came strolling in as we finished up.

The red panda taking a nap.  there are supposed to be baby red pandas at the zoo, but they were not on display at the nursery or in the enclosure. Rocket and I decided we want one of these. Finally an animal we can agree on

It was a good day.  A great way to end the summer.  Rocket was in bed sleeping by 8 pm.  I think he is anxious about school starting, but he is ready to see friends on a regular basis.
