Pinewood Derby fun and excitement

Today was the cub scout Pinewood Derby.  Bug has been working on his car for the last few weeks with Pap.  The pictures are not in order as I am also including pictures of some of the creative cars in Bug's den.

This is one of the creative cars.  Too cute.

This is Bug's car.  Bug learned how to spray paint and use a scroll saw (with Pap).

There were some very cool designs.  The boys could win an award for first, second, third place, then there were awards for craftsmanship and originality.  Each den had 5 awards.  The dens are by grade level, Bug is in 2nd grade den, the wolves.  His den had the most boys participating- 11 boys.

The track is set up in the gym, the boys are in place, and the crowd is prepared to cheer.  let the derby begin.

Oh, another creative car- an ant-eater car.

all set.
each car in each den races on the 4 tracks and the fastest time wins.  In Bug's den, the difference between 1st place and 7th pace (where Bug placed) was 0.02 of a second!!!  These boys had very good cars.

After the derby, which was at 9 am and ended close to 10:30 and was after weigh in on Friday night from 7-8 pm and then set up in the gym from 8:30-9:45 pm, we went grocery shopping, had lunch and came home.  I needed a rest and Bug wanted to play.  When I came out out of my room, this is what I found in the living room.

One sleeping Bug!! And a great train track

snow tubing

blogger messed up the order of the pictures again, but I will try to tell you the story and then highlight the pictures.  Julie and I took Bug and N to the local ski resort for some snow tubing today.  We had hoped to go on one of the days when the cub scouts received discounted tickets, but that did not work out.  Since the boys have school holiday today due to it being Presidents Day, we took the day off from our jobs to hang with our boys.  The morning temperatures was in the mid 30s- so just above freezing.  The high temperature is supposed to reach 54F degrees today, so very Spring like temperatures.  We decided to go first thing in the morning- good thing.

We got to the slopes and got our tubes and headed up the moving sidewalk.  The boys went down with us once and then they decided to go alone.  I decided to stay at the bottom to get pictures of them coming down the hill.
This is the boys at the end of their run- very happy.
Here they are heading up the slope with Ms. Julie.

The hill they will be coming down, you can see the line of people on the right side of the photo.  They are going up the moving sidewalk.

The boys and Ms Julie are somewhere in this crowd.

The boys are the black spec in the middle of the photo. Still too far away for me get their picture.

After the boys came down, Ms. Julie followed.  At the bottom of the hill, there is all this gravel to slow you down.

votes for who wants to keep on tubing.
We had 2 hours on the slopes.  By the end, the temperature was so warm that the snow was slushy and slow.  So coming down the hill, everyone stopped about mid way down, in the flat area.

Our second to the last run, waiting in line.  By this time, there were lots of people at the slopes.

Superman Bug.
I will have more pictures from the slope tomorrow after Ms Julie posts her pictures and I copy them.  She took pictures of me.

After tubing, we took the boys to lunch- at MacDonald's.  Quick, easy and on the way home.  Bug got a hold of the camera and took this picture of himself.  silly little man.

He also took this great picture of N.

As the Fresh beat Band says "it was a great day, the very best day and nothing could be better".

Deb

I have seen this hair cut before

flash back time- my Bug in December 2006.  Not to pleased to be with me on my second visit trip, but oh so styling in his Christmas outfit and cute hair cut.

Yes, not too excited to be hanging in the hotel with me.

yes, he was not a happy camper at all. The hair cut is the important thing in the picture.

Why?? Because Bug wanted his hair cut this weekend and I let him choose how it was cut.

I have seen this face and this hair cut before.
Bug is not feeling too good- ear infection, possibly 2 infected ears.  We are off to the doctor tomorrow.

Love and hugs,
Deb

my birthday 2013

First the Bug photo.  I came into Bug's room the other morning and found Bug sound asleep in his bean bag chair with a book on chest.  He had woken up early and decided to read.  I love this, reminds me of me when I was younger.  I need to send this photo to his teacher so she can see how much he loves to read.

We were supposed to celebrate my birthday on Saturday, but the snow caused us to delay until Sunday.  Bug was in charge of photos- he had his own ideas of what photos to take during the party.

Like this one- it is supposed to be of me wearing the hat, instead I am pushing up my glasses.

The only one in the house not celebrating- he is looking for Lasagna, which we had for dinner.

YUMMY carrot cake for birthday.

And to end the day, Bug wanted a tattoo.

That was our weekend.

Love and hugs,
Deb
