Reds baseball game with friends

Bug and I headed out to the baseball game today, Pap's union got discounted tickets.  The Reds were playing for home field advantage in the 1 game Wild card playoff with the Pittsburgh Pirates.  The game was chosen long before the Reds made the playoffs, so this was extra special in terms of being able to see a game.  Before we went to the game, Pablo gave me the sad face, he did not want to be left at home in his crate.

Bug even asked if one day Pablo could go with us to the game.  Oh my, what a disaster that would be, Pablo barks at everything.

Once we got downtown, we met up with J and N on Fountain Square.  For late September, the weather was excellent.  Bug wanted to take the bus to the game, so we took the South Bank Shuttle down from to the stadium.

But, first some photos on the square.  J asked another fan to take a picture of all of us, as soon as she posts it Facebook or her blog, I will post it here.

This was N's first Reds game, and we stopped to get a 'first game' certificate.  I picked one up for Bug, even though he was at a game 2 or 3 years ago.  Then we stopped for a picture with Big Boy for Pap.

The mommas in our seats.  We were sitting just off the 3rd base foul line about 16 rows back from the wall.  really close. When the usher showed us our seats he reminded us to watch for foul balls.  There were 2 that came toward our area.

The boys down by the wall - excellent seats.

Little buddies!!

The fans starting to come in, that is J standing up on the left side of the picture down in front.

This was later in the game - the 5th or 6th inning.  The Reds were loosing 7 to 3 at this point.  Not good at all.

2 hot little boys- sitting in the sun for 4 hours was tiring.  We left at the top of the 8th inning, Reds were still loosing 7 to 3.

Oh well, the Reds have one more regular season game with the Pirates tomorrow and then on Tuesday, they will play the Pirates again in Pittsburgh for the wild card playoff.  That game on Tuesday will decide who will continue on in the post season playoffs.

We had a great time at the ball game. Bug wants to see some games next year. I will have to check the schedule once it comes out and see what we can do.  The best part about Reds games, we can bring in our own food and drinks, unlike going to see the Bengals.  Bug also wants to attend a football game.  Not sure that will be happening anytime soon.

Pap's 55th High school reunion and Hermano's birthday

Saturday, Bug and I took Pap and Mam down to Pap's 55th year class reunion.  He graduated from a high school right near the University of Cincinnati.  The building is so cool, it has gargoyles!!  This is the front with Bug on the steps and Mam in the picture.

The building was built in 1908, over a century ago.  The school is still in use, there is a new section built a few years ago.  Pap and Mam stayed for the luncheon and Bug and I walked around the University to see the changes from when I started college there over 25 years ago (how is it possible that I was in college 25 years ago???).

The center tower- it took 2 pictures to get it all in.

The very top of the center tower.

Pap ran into one of his friends before they went in.

Bug and I had lunch over in the new University Commons and then walked to look at the changes in the campus.  None of these athletic fields were as accessible when I was in college here.  The football team actually played in the downtown stadium, not here on campus. This is the sign from the soccer field.  I did not realize there was a soccer game in the evening, but we had other plans for the evening to be detailed below.

This is athletic complex, he soccer field, the football stadium, the field hockey field and off camera the baseball/softball fields.

The building with the white tower is the Hall where I spent most of my time- the Arts and Sciences building.  It is amazing to see all the changes.

This is looking down the railing toward one of the dormitories and the College of Music.

Bug and I walked over to Arts and Sciences building and found a fountain.  Yep, he and I are drawn to water- the siren call of Agua.  I gave Bug some pennies to thrown into the fountain and he was happy.

Looking toward the student center.  None of this in the middle was there when I was in college.  There was an old army building where I took geology classes, that building is long gone.  I like the look of the campus now, wide open spaces to play Frisbee, sit and study, people watch.

We headed back to high school and played "I spy with my little eye" for about 15 minutes before the adults came out for a class picture.  This is the group that came to the luncheon.  Not everyone from the class was able to make it, but I think Pap had a great time.

Bug and I had 30 minutes at home before we headed out to the farm.  Hermano was celebrating his birthday.  Bug fell asleep before we got to the main highway.

There were 5 boys and some family at the party.  As always, it was a great time.  the boys played for a good long time while the grownups talked.

K made Minion Twinkies for the boys- too cute!

After dinner, cake, ice cream and present, we headed out for a hayride.  I love taking hayrides.

The boys enjoyed the ride.  I found my new favorite house on the ride.  I really want it, it is too cute.

J was the perfect driver.

We had a quiet day at home with Mam and Pap.  We watched some football, had some chili and corn bread and some apple pie crescent rolls.

It was a busy weekend, but a good weekend.

Pops Concert- Star Trek theme

We headed to Dewey's Pizza for dinner.  Fran taught Bug some new chess moves, I think I am in trouble now.  She got him to think 3 moves ahead.  But it was fun.

The Harvest moon from this morning, Huge and beautiful.

After pizza- we headed to the Pops concert.  They were playing Star Wars and Star Trek music, so of course, there were people dressed up.

We thought there were only the Storm troopers, but looking down from the second floor, we saw Jedi Knights,

Darth Maul and Storm trooper,

Some Stark Trek fans,

Bug had to get a picture with Darth Maul.  Love Bug's face, so happy and excited.

Sand People from Star Wars

The Pops on stage

Bug watching from our seat- way at the top and to the side, but we could see everything.

Including dancing R2s!!

And the not dancing Darth Maul.  The music here is the Catina music from Star Wars

Bug, watching the dancing

And in the second half, George Takei came out to narrate the Star Trek section.  His voice is wonderfully smooth.  What a wonderful night.

Live long and prosper, Mr Sulu!!

Bug enjoyed the music, but the concert was late for him.  We got home at almost 11 pm, way past his bed time.  But what an experience for him.  Fran taught him some classical music items while we were at the concert.  Music is one of her passions.

Love and hugs,
Deb
