walking through the parks, Easter, and World cup qualifiying

The pictures are really out of order, but I will try to comment on all of them for you.  We start with a cute picture of Pablo, hanging on to his "baby" while laying on the couch.  His baby looks like it was brand new.  He usually eats the feet off his babies and then starts trying to get the squeaker out of the belly of the baby.

Bug started his Spring break on Good Friday.  I took him and Pablo out to one of our parks.  There were 2 waterfalls and both my boys were happy campers.

Pablo really liked the smells and wanted to go deeper in the water and he wanted to go get the ducks.

This is me with Pablo walking the path

Monday, we celebrated Uncle Dave's birthday.  He has to work every weekend, so we don't see him for family dinners.

Tuesday, we drove to Columbus, OH for the USA vs Guatemala.  We got to the hotel before our friends, so Bug had time to swim before lunch and check in.

Tuesday evening was game time!  We got our temporary tattoos on, our USA or Guatemala gear on and headed out for some tailgating before the game started.   This was a must won game for team USA because they lost in Guatemala on Good Friday.  We expected an intense game and we got it.

Me in my team gear.  I ended up with a light blue hood on under the red shirt, so there was some Guatemalan colors on me too.

Bug with his friends.  2 other families from Bug's school headed to the game with us.  The kids out numbered the adults all the time.  We had kids ages 14-7 with us.

Bug in his dual supporting gear.  He would be happy no matter who won.

Playing soccer before the game.  The kids ran for 2 hours playing in the sun.

The road to the stadium.  Just off to the left were lots of Guatemalan supporters.  I walked down and bought Bug some mire Guatemalan gear (head bands).

One of the groups of Guatemalan supporters I talked to at the game.

Look who was also at the game!!  They were in the same hotel as us and we got to see them before the game and then the next morning at breakfast.

Just before we headed down to the stadium, ESPN walked up, saw bug in his Guatemalan gear and us all in our USA gear and asked us if we wanted to be on TV.  They asked if there were more Guatemalans and we ran over to invite a group to join us.  The ESPN guys had us line up and they walked their camera down the line filming us all cheering.  The line ended with these flags.  Bug is in there somewhere.  What an opportunity.  I am trying to find the footage on the web, we saw it briefly on Wednesday morning.

The ESPN camera guy.

Ready for the game

As we got to the gate, the American Outlaws (US supporters) came up behind us- 500 strong!

Our view of the field.  This is the north end of the stadium, looking toward the south end.  During the game, the US defended this goal in the first half and Guatemala defended it during the second half (in case you get to or got to see the game).
We are in the American Outlaw section, right on the edge, just above where the teams came out onto the playing field.

The American Outlaws filling up the section behind the goal.

The cover above the player tunnel.

Tim Howard came out to sign autographs.  You can see a large group of Guatemalan supports in the lower right corner.

The kids, just over the tunnel.  Bug is down second from the far end.

One happy boy.

The teams coming out for the national anthems, and introductions.

chatting with T about the game.

As the evening progressed, it got colder and Bug pulled on his flag hat.  Even though we were in the AO section, no one had a negative comment to Bug for supporting Guatemala.  I am so proud of the sportsmanship of the crowd around us.  Bug loved the game and I think we will be going to more soccer games in the future.

One of the families we were with- after the game

The other family we were with at the game.  They travel to the world cup games every 4 years.  If the US makes it to the world cup, they are off to Russia.

Bug and Momma- so much FUN!!!

After the game, the boys wanted to swim.  While at the pool, we ran into another family with a 10 year old from Guatemala.  Small world

Backing up to last week- the ice cream stands are opening.  This is 19Apr at Gold Top.  It was pretty cool outside, but we still had to get the first ice cream of the season.

On 21Apr, Bug and i had our teeth cleaned.
Bug's teeth are looking good.

Good Friday, we colored Easter eggs.  Bug took his coloring very seriously this year.

Back to the walk in the park on Good Friday.   Waterfall number 1

Happy boy and dog.  Though I think Pablo would have preferred to be down on the ground

Waterfall number 2.  Bug was really trying to figure out how to walk across the waterfall.  After I had him touch the water to see how fast it was going and how cold it was, he thought better of his idea.

back to waterfall 1.  We walked a mile trail, so this was on the way back to the car.

Easter Sunday brunch with the family.  All set for everyone to arrive.

After the Easter celebration, I took the boys to the park.  It was much warmer and Pablo was looking for shade and cool while Bug was looking for swings.

Monday, I took the boys to the dog park so Pablo could run with the other dogs.  He met 3 new friends, Dolly (age 3), Tess (age 6 months) and Bella (age 3).  This is Pablo and Bug with Dolly.

Pablo was happy to  fetch the frizbee

The poster for the game on Tuesday.  I told you these were out of order.

Back to teh soccer game adventure.  After the game and swimming, Bug and 2 buddies from school decided to have a sleep over in our room.  The boys were playing on their DS game systems.  They stayed up until 12:15 playing games and then talked , quietly, until 12:45 am!

Snuggled in for sleep.  They all decided to sleep in the same bed- 3 bears, mis tres ositos.

about 7 am- dead to the world sleeping.  I was shocked they all stayed in the same bed.  I expected that bug would end up in my bed or that at least of the boys would move to the sleeper sofa (a sofa that turns into a bed) and sleep there.

When the boys finally got up, close to 9 am (one usually gets up at 6:30), they started playing pokemon at breakfast and then asked to swim again before we checked out of the hotel.

The younger boys, in the pool.

We left about 11:30, carpoolong home with one of the families.  after we got home, Bug and I took a nap.  The adventure ended with Bug falling asleep on Wednesday night at 9:30 and sleeping until almost 10 am on Thursday.  One worn out little man.

It has been a great Spring break for bug and me. Just a few more days and then back to work and school.  But now the count down to the end of school begins.  Just about 40 more school days once Bug goes back on Monday, 04Apr.

Love and hugs,
Deb
