quilting on a snowy day AKA think Spring!

Well, we got another 4 inches of snow.  It is a blustery but sunny day and a cold day.  To warm my spirits, I pulled out the quilt for my bed that I have been working on for 4 years. Today, I managed to finish the quilting in the middle section, the corners and the border.  All that is left is to put on the binding (maybe tomorrow?) and wash it on more time and then onto the bed.  With the temperatures coming this week, we will need another quilt on the bed.

The diamonds in the middle section.

The inner border

The corner- I put circles here.  The size matches the flowers.  You can see the border quilting, I just did one wavy line down the middle, too tired to do more and running out of thread that matches.

a close up of the wavy line.

after finishing the quilt, Bug and I worked on getting a huge piece of furniture down to the basement so I can use it to store quilting supplies.  Bug mostly took things out of storage unit while I took it apart (2 pieces) and slide it down the stairs, on its side with me in front of it.

Now we are settling in for some Avatar watching (the cartoon series).  We have not made it out of our jammies today.

sooooo cold and more basketball

This month has been just awful in terms of the weather, lots of snow and temperatures soooooo cold.  This week, we again had wind chills below zero F.  That is just bone chilling cold.  Bug was off school on Tuesday due to snow, Wednesday they had a delay and we should have had delays the rest of the week, but we had to be outside at 7:35 am to catch the bus.  So we bundled up.  2 shirts (undershirt, then dress shirt), long johns (long underwear) and pants, wool socks, a hoodie, coat and our balaclavas, and heavy gloves.  I also wore my snow/ski pants and boots.  Bug refused to wear his boots. The temperatures coming next week are going to be even worse and we are getting another 4 inches of snow tomorrow (Saturday) and more on Sunday.  I am ready for winter to be over.

Here we are all bundled up, me with foggy glasses.

Tonight was a make up basketball game from December.  That game was cancelled due to snow.  We are scheduled the same team tomorrow and we are scheduled to have snow (4 inches) at the time of our game.  I am personally thinking the game will be cancelled, Bug is hoping the game gets played.  Have I said I am ready for winter to be over.

start of the game

half time pep talk.

End of the game.  The boys lost again, but this time the score was 20-14, our closest game yet and we lead the entire first quarter.  Our boys are coming along, doing fantastic.

snow much fun!

It is a school holiday and I took a vacation day so Bug and I could have some fun.  We started bright and early with a visit to Mrs. Patty.  She cleaned our teeth and told bug that he has magnificent teeth!  She told me that bug will need braces, so he now has an appointment for February with the orthodontist to see what is needed and the cost.

We got home from the dentist office and packed up our things for a trip to the snow tubing slope with friends. We had so  much fun last year we knew we wanted to come back again this year.  The boys were so excited to be going snow tubing again.

Heading up the hill, tubes in tow.

on the "magic carpet" that takes us to the top of the hill.

Ready to go.  This picture is still early in the day because Bug is still all bundled.  It was supposed only be 36 degrees F today (4 degrees above freezing), but it definitely got warmer. The boys were shedding layers by mid morning.

mid point, and coats are unzipped, gloves are coming off and everyone has been in the gravel at the bottom of the hill a few times.

J, N, Bug and Me- the too much fun crew!

by all the rules-

J and the boys heading down- the boys wanted to be hooked up with one of us all the time.  This time, I got to go alone.

down the hill they go.  By this time, the slopes were very crowded.   You can see the crowd of people to the left in this picture.

definitely late in the fun, no coat, no hat, no gloves and still sweating.

we are going up there- second to last run of the day.

and he is off and spinning down the hill

more spinning, same run

J came down last so I could take her picture.  She is riding Superman style, one Super momma

resting momma- last run for the day.

happy family

the look of love.

We were at the slopes for 3 hours and then got some lunch before heading home.  Once home, Bug and I were worn out from all the fun.  It was a lazy afternoon around our house.  It looks like Bug will not have school tomorrow because of the snow coming tonight.  Lucky boy gets to play again tomorrow and it is back to work for me.

birthday party fun

Bug was invited to a birthday party today.  We have not seen these friends in 2 years, though I follow MK1 on facebook to see what they are doing.  It was such a great surprise to get the invite and we had a great day playing with MK2 at the gym and celebrating her birthday.

Bug spent lots of time on the tumble trak bouncing.  I think he is ready for Spring to come so the trampoline can be put back up.

He did play on the balance beam.  At one point he told me it would be hard for me to walk on the balance beam, so I showed him how easy it is for me.  I was applauded by the other moms.

I am not sure what goes on in this gym, but the pictures all have a hazy on them.  It is something in the air at the gym.

one of the baskets- bug could touch it when he jumped.  I was amazed and then realized that this basket is actually lower than the other baskets in the gym.  Still it was cool to see Bug jump and touch the net.

The birthday group making silly faces.  MK2 in the middle, bug on the far end.

buddies- like they just saw each other just yesterday.

2 pictures from Thursday- this is the sunrise I saw after putting Bug on the bus.  AWESOME!  God paints with gorgeous colors.

The sunrise was from the back porch steps.  I love the colors and the light and dark.

Bug and I are getting together tomorrow with some other friends to go snow tubing again.  So excited!  School is off tomorrow and I took a vacation day to spend time with Bug.

basketball again plus some older pictures

Another weekend, another basketball game. But before the pictures from the game, some pictures from the holiday that I did not realize I had.
Bug decided to see if he fit in the dog's crate.  I think all kids do this at some point.  Pablo was not happy that Bug was in his crate.

I worked on the quilt for my bed.  I still have to finish the quilting and the binding, but it is one day away from being done (now to just find the day to finish it).

Pablo and his baby.  All Pablo's stuffed toys are babies and he destroys them in nothing flat.  Some babies don't even last 30 minutes.  This one lasted 2 hours.

Bug making some bracelets with his loom band kit.

Basketball game today.  Playing around before the game started- practicing shots and rebounding

We played this team in our first game and we have pretty much shut out of each game since.  This game seemed like it would go the same way as we watched the other team practice, but our boys put all their practices together and fought hard.  We led at one point in the game.  We made the other team work for every point.  We lost 11-21, but the game was much closer than the score makes it seem.

Bug got a great rebound, he was playing great defense all game.  I am so proud of him and his team mates.  We have 5 more games left.

Love and hugs,
Deb
