A new comera in anticipation of another visit back to Guatemala

We got a new camera this week.  All for the trip to Guatemala this summer.  All tickets have been bought and the hotel room booked and now the count down begins until we leave.  We just have to make it through Spring Break this week and the count down begins in earnest.

Rocket colored eggs today while I played with the camera.  Ignore the mess, I was still working on cleaning up and organizing

He had 15 eggs to start with, then one dropped on the floor so I had to eat it before it was colored.

Pablo just wants to have some food- he will eat anything.

I love this little doggie.  He is getting very grey around his muzzle as he ages.

The boy on Wednesday telling me to stop taking pictures (hehehehe - not going to happen kiddo)

trying to take pictures of the rain drops on the tree

The boy coming home on Thursday- last day of school before Spring Break.  He did not see me until this point.  I wanted to see how defined the pictures would be

Looking in the door at me.

In the door and with the flash.  Yes, he still has braces and he is not happy about it.  He wants them off before we go to Guatemala and that might not happen.  All he wants is to chew gum right now.

Me and Pablo.  I am answering emails on my phone for work and Pablo is keeping me warm.

Silly doggie.  Rocket had Pablo's 'baby' on his head.  the baby is a stuffed animal that Pablo has ripped all the stuffing out and started chewing the animal up.  he loves his babies.

Last night, I took the boy out for ice cream - the local soft serve opened for the season on Tuesday.  Rocket is playing soccer again this year and his practices are very close to the ice cream store.  I foresee ice cream once a week after practice.

well that's all for today.  Popi and familia- I am sending you an email this weekend with the details about our trip back to see you.

Happy Easter to all,
Deb

Spring Break Staycation

Rocket and I stayed home last week for his Spring Break, but that does not mean we had nothing to do for the week.  The pictures are sort of messed up (there are days I don't like blogger).

Rocket's vacation started on Good Friday- no school for him and I took the entire day off so we could be together. He slept pretty late and then just wanted to go to the movies.  We saw Power Rangers.  It is not as bad as I thought it would be, but it was still pretty bad. I am looking forward to seeing the summer movies- they look to be so much better.

Saturday we cleaned house since everyone was due over at my house on Sunday.

Sunday fell apart after church- we had 3 waves of people through our house since everyone's schedule was so busy with family events.  The last of the folks left at 6 pm and Rocket and I crashed.  The Easter Bunny was good to him and he got some darts for his NERF gun, a new movie and a little bit of candy.

Monday we hung out at home.  I had to work in the morning and then he was waiting for everyone to get home from school (every school had different breaks this year).  He played outside until 8:30 with the kids in the neighborhood.

Tuesday we went to the zoo with Mam and Aunt Linda.  Aunt Linda and Uncle Troy were up for the holidays from their home in Florida.  Uncle Troy was with Pap and Linda hung out with us.  We did not stay very long at the zoo- I was not feeling well at all and after 2 hours I was done.  We did stop for ice cream with Linda. In addition, our roof was replaced on this day- lots of banging.  They had to come back for 2 hours of work on Wednesday. Tuesday I had 1 meeting, Wednesday I had meetings from 8 am - 12noon.  The roofers showed up at 7 am and it was straight pounding until 9 am on Wednesday.

Wednesday I took the dog and Rocket to the park for a hike.  We hiked for 2 hours and had a great time.  Found a trail that will be completely shaded in the summer months and that had a number of waterfalls to look at.  I had 2 very worn out boys in the car with me on the way home. Afterwards, Rocket still played outside until 8:30.

Thursday we headed to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and learned all about slavery in America, the civil war and ongoing slavery today.  We also saw a very moving exhibit on the life of Nelson Mandela.  It ended with a room on Forgiveness.  Very powerful.

Friday was another hang out day at home until everyone else got home and then it was outside for Rocket to play.  Another evening of being out in the yard until

Saturday was a PJ day- we stayed in our pajamas all day and it was very, very nice.  We watched a few movies, I read 2 books, Rocket played a soccer game and we had a very low key day to prepare us for the start of the work/school week.

here are the pictures.

At the zoo- we managed to catch the end of the Zoo Blooms season.  The tulips looked great, but definitely were dying out.

My handsome little man.

The easter eggs- the new decorating technique was a failure for us.  But it worked for lots of my friends on Facebook.   We will try it again.

Pablo was not too thrilled to be this close to the water.

Off on our hiking adventure.

The Easter eggs in process of being dyed.  They are rolled shaving cream that has food color added.  they are supposed to sit for 10-20 minutes and when you wipe the shaving cream off, the color has dyed the eggs.  it did not work like that.  We might be dying eggs over the next few months to get the process down before next year.

Well, that is what we did over Spring Break.

Rocket is back in school today and I am back to full days at work.  It was a nice little break.  Now 6 weeks until school ends this year.

Love and hugs,
Deb

Easter and Butterfly show

Monday, Bug was off school and I worked in the morning.  Once I finished up work, we picked up Mam and headed to the butterfly show.  This year the butterflies are from Costa Rica- so close to Guatemala.  I am missing Guatemala.

there were 2 waterfalls and blue morpho butterflies flying all over the area.

There were some gorgeous Monarch butterflies feasting on nectar.

Then I found this incredible butterfly.  A malachite.  it hung out with me for 10-15 minutes, too cool.

this is the malachite with open wings

Mam was having a hard time walking.  She sat while we walked around looking for butterflies.  The blue morphos are never still, but one landed on Mam.

Finally, after years, I get a picture of a still blue morpho with open wings.  We learned that we need to wear khaki pants and a light blue shirt and the butterflies will come land on us.  Mam had on khaki pants

Bug got a monarch

Bug learned to iron again- he is ironing fabric for his quilt

Bug got his own sewing machine.  One of the nice ladies at church gave it to him.
