catching up- Labor Day fun and Drumming

Last Sunday, I piled the boys and the dog into the car and took them for a small walk in the local park.  Pablo was so excited, hanging out the window and breathing the fresh air. It was a very humid day, but putting the windows up and turning on the air conditioning causes Pablo to get scared.

The park is close to church and our house, but you can loose yourself in nature and forget that there are major roads right behind the trees.
The pond at the park was looking pretty muddy, but with the light rain, the fish were having a feeding frenzy.

The turtles were happy too

Bug and Pablo were happy to be walking and seeing everything.  Pablo wanted to sniff everything and Bug was looking for "monsters".  We only saw butterflies.

BB was not so sure about walking in the rain, but it got both boys out of the house.  It was a good 30-45 minutes of walking for us all.

At the end of the walk, there were some local raptors to see. I had to keep Pablo away, but we saw a Hawk.

A Barn Owl (who was probably mad about being out in the daylight)

and a great horned owl

BB liked the great horned owl.

Monday was a holiday- the last unofficial day of summer, Labor Day.  This holiday is really to celebrate the American workers and unions who fought for rights of workers so they had safe working conditions, 5 days of work and allowed children to be exempt from working adult jobs (like in factories).  We had some friends over for dinner and some game playing.  We taught BB, L and F how to play Cars Monopoly.

This week, the paperwork for band came home and Bug wants to play the drums.  We are very blessed to have friends from scouts who loaned us a snare drum for Bug to try out.  He will have band once a week at school and another musical instrument to practice each week. I might need ear muffs to block the sound.

But, Bug is following the family tradition of drummers.  Uncle Dave and cousin Jason were both drummers.  Bring it on!!!

Bug was supposed to have soccer today, but he came home last night complaining of stomach pain and he was still complaining about the pain this morning at 6 am.  So he is home and watching cartoons.  BB was out until midnight last night with another AFS family, enjoying a local church festival.  He is slowly waking up. Pablo is just happy to have us all home today.  I need to go start laundry and cleaning.
Love and hugs,
Deb
