Bridging to Boy Scouts

Tonight was the Boy Scouts bridging ceremony.  The boys are checking out the rope bridge (about 2.5 meters off the ground).  I have to say that Bug has been anxious about this ceremony for the last few days.  Today, he was complaining that his stomach was hurting.

The boys scouts built this on Thursday evening.  I am impressed.

The leads are tied off
The boys lined up listening to the scoutmaster. He is explaining the plan for the evening.

The tiger cubs from this pack, bridged up to Wolves before the older boys bridged to boy scouts.

The Senior Weblos listening to the scout motto and saying the scout oath.  Bug certainly looked like he was ready to flee. Our boys from Pack 660 are in the tan shirts as they actually completed cub scouts last month.  The boys from Pack 24 are in blue, they completed cub scouts tonight, came out for the bridging ceremony and will leave for their first boy scout camp right after bridging.

All lined up.  Bug is 5th in line, the second from pack 660

The scouts were responsible for weighting the rope while the boys bridged over.

P made it across.

Bug starting across.

he was tentative, but kept moving

the lowest point of the bridge

So determined

He made it!  He was not the fastest, but he did it.  This week while we talked, I told him, no matter if he made it across or not, I was going to be proud of him.  I was about 50 yards away, not in his line of sight.  The crowd of parents and scouts cheered on every boy as they completed the bridge.  I am so proud of my boy working through his fear and making it across.

A pat on his back from his patrol leader.

A hand shake from his scoutmaster

high 5s from a fellow scout

Getting his boy scout book and another congratulations from his scoutmaster.

And another pat on the back

Before getting on the bus for camp, while the older scouts were breaking down the bridge, the newest scouts got a treat of some ice cream.

Ready for camp

Bug will be home on Sunday.  I can't wait to hear about camp.

Love and hugs,
Deb
