building Bug's car for the cub scout pinewood derby

Pinewood Derby is coming up in a little over a month.  Since this is Bug's first year in cub scouts, I have no idea what to expect and I definitely do not have the tools to build the car with him.  Our local Home Depot ran a clinic today for the boy scouts and cub scouts to come and use the tools to get started.  What an awesome idea.  we took Pap and Mam along for he fun.
step 1. picking a design for Bug's car.  He picked the one he wanted and we worked together to transfer the design to the wood.

Working together.

Step 2. after the Home Depot work cut out the design, we worked on sanding the car down.

Step 3. painting, I am smoothing out  some paint runs here.

Bug working hard on the rest of the paint job.  He did most of the painting.

While we waited for the paint to dry on the car, we did one of the Home Depot crafts- a child size tool box

Bug is great at hammering this year.

Back to the car- working on nailing in the wheels

I had to do some hammering

A test run

Mam and Pap checking things out.
Bug and I still have to work on the wheels, add the weights and add stickers.  I think Bug's car looks great.  Bug is ambivalent right now- he is bit tired from the whole weekend.  Good thing he has tomorrow off school.

Love and hug,
Deb
