Friday afternoon, I received a call from a friend saying that they would be at my house in 2 hours. I was expecting them in over the weekend, just not on Friday. They ended up coming in 30 minutes earlier than they said, so they were at the house when Bug got off the bus. The living room turned into play ground central with the 3 kids. There was some coloring, some nerf gun shooting and definitely lots of fun.
Even the little munchkin got into playing with the nerf guns. She had more fun putting the "bullets" then firing it. But she definitely was happy when the guns were fired ans she could go get the bullets.
This morning, Bug had his first pinewood derby. His car has the pirate flag on the back, 4th from the right.
I have to give a shout out to the dads in Bug's pack. During weigh in on Friday night, they were sharing tools and helping everyone to have the best cars for the race today. One dad helped me by routing out the bottom of Bug's car to put the weights in, another shared the graphite powder, I shared super glue, 2 of the older scouts decided I needed help screwing in the weights. It was a great experience, everyone helping, no one hoarding tips, all so the boys could have a great race on Saturday.
These are the senior boys cars- yes, they are very experienced in car building.
pack master Jim, testing the track
The trophies- there are 3 speed awards at each level, one design award, one originality. for the tigers, there was one extra award for the best sportsman
Bug and one of his pack mates standing on the award stand.
One of the Tigers in training (little brother of one of the tiger scouts), his shirt never matched his face. I thought it was cute.
The Tigers, ready for their races. Each car races on all 4 lanes. With 8 Tiger scouts, we had 5 heats.
Bug's car placed 1st, 3rd, 3rd in his heats. Overall in the Tigers, his car was 4th- by just a hundredth of a second. He was disappointed, but as I explained to him, not everyone wins and we learned a lot about what to do for next year. He is already planning his car for next year.
Afterward, he was one worn out Bug as we went shopping.
It was a busy day, a great day and a day filled with lots of fun.
Love and hugs,
Deb
