baking and zoo lights with friends

Today was a better day for me, no migraine, or at least a low level migraine that meds worked on.  I spent the day working on projects at the house.  We baked scones this morning.  Bug was happy to help with the brushing of the tops with whipped cream.

Then we did a kids friendly cooking activity of dipping pretzel rods into melted chocolate and then sprinkling them with candies.  Bug loved this one.  We took some of the pretzels to the zoo for snacks tonight.

Just a picture to show how much Bug has grown in the last year.  He completely can get ready to go out in the snow by himself.  Not such a little boy any more, but definitely a big boy.

We went out to shovel the driveway and Bug decided to shovel the back patio.  But the snow was really heavy and he gave up after 2 passes.  He decided that making a snowman was more fun.

Bug's snowman- or as we found out later, a snow cat.

Bug continued to add to it after it was done.  I have a feeling this one will be growing

We headed out to the zoo around 3 pm.  The goal was to see some animals before darkness fell.  But due to the icy conditions- it was misting all day and the temperatures were below freezing, most of the animals were not on view.  Bug was very upset that the tigers were not out.  The ground was so slippery that many of the zoo trails were closed.  We could not even to get to the tigers, the wolves, and the giraffes. Not exactly the outing we hoped for in terms of seeing the animals.

But Bug was happy

We got to see the Sea Lions!!!!  they were doing flips, ballet in the water.  So cool to watch.

We saw the baby wallabies- there are 2 at the zoo.

The aardvark- he/she looked scared.  Poor baby.

I fed some goats. Bug was quite content to be the photographer.  He wanted nothing to do with feeding the goats.

We saw a gorgeous barn owl.

And met up with friends.  The boys are 15 days apart in age and only centimeters apart in height.  They had a good time together. It is amazing how different they are, though.  Bug was content to sit in the stroller and be pushed around.  Then his friend arrived and he was happy to walk.  But he wanted back in the stroller in the end.  Bug seems to be the only one of his friends who loves his stroller, all the others like to walk or refuse the stroller.  I know for Bug, the stroller is his safe place.  He feels safe being pushed around in large crowds.  It becomes his haven.  I am not sure what we are going to do next year when he is too large for the stroller.  I am hoping he feels safer just walking with me.

Mam and I had a good time too.

We saw the WOLVES from the train.

The boys, looking for the polar bears.

Eating chocolate covered pretzels.

Alligator tamers!!!!!

My tiger loving boy

Friend and his dad on the carousel.

Bug, hanging out with the tiger some more.

And one final picture of boys on the gorilla.
It was good day.  Tomorrow is just housework- a trip to the laundry mat to wash the duvets and then some present wrapping if Bug is out of the house.

Bug is desperate for Santa to arrive.  I think he is going to be out of control on Friday with excitement.

Love and hugs,
Deb
