Baking with Bug's class

We had some lovely weather yesterday and Bug started to take a nap on the porch swing

but then M came home from church (she goes to a later service then we do) and Bug was quite happy playing with M and the little dog from next door.
Today, I volunteered with 5 other family members, in Bug's class.  We helped the kids prepare things for the Thanksgiving feast.  There were 3 groups- 2 adults in each group.  One group peeled potatoes and carrots, one group made zucchini bread and my group made apple pie.  The adult volunteers took the food home to cook it and we have to bring it back tomorrow morning so the kids can feast in the afternoon. Yeah- no lunch needing to be packed for Bug tomorrow.  They are going to have Turkey, potatoes, carrots, bread, pies and whatever else the other 2 kindergarten classes are making.  yep- Bug should be nice and full when he gets home from school.  But back to the activities today.

Before we started, Mrs. C read a book to the kids.  It is her tradition.

My group make pie.  We had a failure with the apple peeler, so I had to peel by hand after the apples were sliced.  S, the other parent helper, had the kids put the pie crust into the pie pan and make the apple coating.
Mrs. C took lots of pictures- including this one of Bug taking her picture.
Bug and I working on the apples.  he was busy, busy, busy talking with this friends.
My group- a really fun bunch.  Young man on the right, behind the girl with glasses, kept complaining that he was hungry and kept trying to eat the apples.  The kids had lunch 20 minutes before we started this activity.  I did not realize that the 'bottomless pit" syndrome that boys go through starts this early in life.  I thought it was a teenage thing.
After finish making everything, the kids sat down for circle time and we were treated to a number of songs - which Bug has already assured me he will not be singing with family on Thursday.  The kids were very enthusiastic with all of the parent helpers watching.
Mrs. C had to cut the kids off to let us leave as there was a fire drill coming.  I guess the kindergarten teachers find out about it so they can help prepare the kids- they practiced what to do, no screaming, no running and if the sound of the alarm scared them, hands over their ears.  We made it our just in time because as we were turning in our visitor badges, the principle was telling the office staff when to set of the drill

I will be taking the pie to school in the morning and then doing some quick last minute Thanksgiving food shopping for us.  I have to finish up the house cleaning tomorrow, so that Bug and I can bake our pies on Wednesday.

Love and hugs,
Deb
