Thanksgiving baking

starting first with some pictures of the kitchen- soon to be painted.  The 3 color choices are on the wall- light green, medium green and dark green.  The light green is appealing to me now, Bug prefers the dark green in this location and the medium green on the other test wall (go figure).  But I digress from the real post of the evening- baking with Bug.

One more delay- the turkey Bug made in school.  It will be the center piece on the table tomorrow.
We baked 2 pies today- an apple pie and a pumpkin pie.  Bug is busy working on the dough for the crust.  He really liked using the pastry blender, and then I showed him how to clean it and that became his favorite task for the rest of the day.
 shaping the dough
Rolling it out with his new rolling pin.  He had a blast.
Then we peeled the apples and cut them up.  this was the hardest work of the day for Bug.
The apple pie ready to go into the oven.  I ended up doing a lattice top on the pie because we ran out of pie crust.  It was much easier than expected.
The pumpkin pie - ready to be baked
We had enough pumpkin pie filling left over to make pumpkin custard type stuff.  I totally had no idea how this would turn out.  but I ate some this evening and we will be making this again- it was delicious.  And since it is in smaller baking pans, it cooks so much faster than the pie.  YUMMMMMMM.
The apple pie got slightly burnt, but some vanilla ice cream will fix that issue.
 The pumpkin custard things.
So left to cook on Thursday- the turkey and the gravy.  WOHOO- I might actually get to enjoy the time with family instead of being in the kitchen all day!!!!!

Love and hugs,
Deb
