catching up

Some catching from from the last few days.
We checked on the garden.  The potato plants are nearly as tall as hijo.  Unbelievable.  This is the corner of the strawberry bed where we had some "volunteer" potatoes come up and the actual potato bed.  More on the volunteer potatoes below.

The corn is coming along nicely!!!!!

The tomatoes (in the back), sweet peppers (middle) and hot peppers (front) are growing as expected!!!! A few more weeks and we will be eating off of these plants.

The Spring veggie bed- these all should be be finishing now as the weather gets much more humid and hot.  But we have mondo giant radishes, Swiss chard and lettuce that we are eating right now.  The bush beans are finally growing and I think we have snap peas on the other side of the garden finally.  We also have 2 volunteer tomato plants.

The strawberry plants are producing like crazy.

So, "volunteer" plants are ones that grow, but were not planted this year- so we have potatoes in the bed I planted them in last year - apparently I missed digging up some of them and they overwintered.  The tomatoes came up from seeds from some of the tomatoes that feel to the ground last year.  The tomatoes can stay where they are, but I have to harvest the potatoes last night.  they were crowding the strawberries too much and the strawberries are sending out runners for plants that will produce berries next year.  So I took a chance and pulled them up, hoping there would be potatoes to eat.

yes, there were!!!!  we had friends over last night and we all had plenty of potatoes, plus I sent some home with them.

R and C came over for dinner last night. They are friends who also love Guatemala.  they go back to volunteer in Limon- one of the worse  ghettos in Guatemala City.  They work with an organization called La Limonada
Hijo had a great time with them.  they brought bubbles to play with and hijo kept them busy for a long time.

lots of fun.  It was so nice to have dinner with friends and just have time to talk and enjoy the company.

Love and hugs,
Deb
