We headed out to the zoo this morning. due the heat and humidity expected, we figured early was good. It was hot and it was humid and we did mostly OK.
The zoo keepers had some animals out- a hedgehog
An armadillo
we saw the giraffes
The penguins
The polar bears
Including the polar bears ganging up on each other- the 2 bears on the end were not happy with the bear in the middle and there was lots of growling and lots of teeth being shown (yikes!!!)
The squirrel- who wanted our lunches.
while the family went to see the manatees, hijo and I headed to the carousel. He rode 3 times before the family arrived to join us for one more ride on the carousel.
Then we went to the new exhibit- the komono dragons (AKA big lizards)
We went to the cat house and hijo put money in the wishing well to help feed the cats.
We saw the gorillas (by this time, the Florida crew was wearing down- hijo was just getting started).
We saw the big cats. Had a break to eat frozen grapes (delicious!!!!!! and so refreshing)
Took a family photo
got chocked by a 4 year old, rode the train
Played on the new playground
Saw the reptile house and then the blow up komono dragon head
Headed out and back to the car
And imagined that the boys would crash in the car on the way home (no such luck) although hijo faked sleeping for me.
6 hours at the zoo in the nearly 100 degree heat index= one worn out family. Some dinner with Pap and then bath and bed time and here we are at 8:20 pm and hijo is sound asleep. Tomorrow the Florida clan is heading to outdoor pool and amusement park. I have work in the morning and then we are heading to the library and the Y for some swimming.
It was a good holiday weekend.
